Troubleshoot issues with app downloads in your car

If you have trouble with app downloads from your car's Play Store, you can try a few steps to troubleshoot.

Clear cache and data for your apps

Important: Before you try these steps, make sure your car is in park.

Clear Play Store cache and data
  1. On your car screen, tap Settings Settings.
  2. Tap System and then Storage and then Other apps and then Google Play Store Google Play.
  3. At the top right, tap Clear storage and then OK.
Clear Download Manager cache and data
  1. On your car screen, tap Settings Settings.
  2. Tap System and then Storage and then Other apps and then Show system and then Download Manager Download Manager.
  3. At the top right, tap Clear storage and then OK.
Clear Google Play Services cache and data
  1. On your car screen, tap Settings Settings.
  2. Tap System and then Storage and then Other apps.
  3. At the top right, tap Show system and then Google Play Services Google Play Services and then Clear storage and then Clear all data and then OK.

Remove and re-add your Google Account

Important: When you sign out of your account, any apps you downloaded will be removed. After you sign in again, reinstall your apps.

  1. On your car's screen, tap Menu Menu.
  2. At the bottom, tap the Play Store Google Play.
  3. At the top right, tap your profile photo.
  4. Tap Sign out of this account.
  5. Close and reopen the Play Store.
  6. Tap Sign in. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Turn off and on Play Store updates

  1. At the top of your car screen, tap Menu Menu and then Settings Settings and then Apps & notifications and then Show all apps and then Google Play Store Google Play.
  2. At the top of your screen, tap Disable and then Disable app and then Enable.

Connect to the internet

To download apps, you have to connect your car to Wi-Fi or a mobile network.

  1. Check if your car is connected: At the top left of the car's screen, check if you're connected to Wi-Fi .
  2. If you're offline, check if mobile data and Wi-Fi are on.
    1. At the top, tap Menu Menu and then Settings Settings and then Network & internet.
    2. Turn on Mobile data and Wi-Fi.

Tip: If mobile data and Wi-Fi are on but you still are offline, you could be in an area without service. Try again later when you're in a different location.

Check if an update is available for your car

  1. At the top of your car's screen, tap Menu Menu and then Settings Settings and then System and then System update.
  2. Check for update availability:
  • If the screen says, "Your system is up to date," you don't need to complete an update.
  • If the screen doesn't say, "Your system is up to date," at the top right, tap Check for update. Follow the on-screen instructions.

Restart your engine

If none of these steps work, try to turn your car's engine off and then on. Then try to download the app again.
