Giphy app for Google Chat

Use the Giphy app in Chat to add GIFs to your chats.

Tip: You can also send GIFs from your computer. To send a GIF, click Add GIF .

Before you begin

• You need permission from your Google Workspace administrator to install apps.
• You need to add the app to Chat.
  Learn how to find apps and add them to Chat.

Use the Giphy app in Chat

1. Open Chat.
2. Open a direct message with the app or go to a space with the app.
3. Enter a search query, using any keyword, such as "cats" or "funny:"
   • query—Adds the first GIF that matches the query with the set rating. In spaces, enter @Giphy query.
     If you don't like the GIF, click itclick Try again or Delete.
   • choose query—Adds a group of 25 GIFs that match the query with the set rating. In spaces, enter @Giphy choose query. To move through the GIFs, click Next or Back.

Change the content rating of GIFs

The app shows GIFs that are rated G unless you change the default setting. You can view the current rating and change it.

1. Open Chat.
2. Open a direct message with the app or go to a space with the app.
3. Enter rating. In spaces, enter @Giphy rating.
   The app displays the current content rating.
4. Enter rating [Y,G,PG,PG-13,R]. In spaces, enter @Giphy rating [Y,G,PG,PG-13,R].
   For example, to set the content rating of GIFs to G, enter rating G.

Using the app in spaces

To use the app in spaces, you need to explicitly @mention the app in each message to the app (including in replies to messages from the app). The @mention confirms you're sending the message to the app and not to others in the space.
