Join a Teams meeting on a second device [MS]

Join a Teams meeting on a second device

If you've joined a meeting on one device, you have the option to join it on another device at the same time. This can come in handy for more collaboration and content-sharing options. If you're already in a meeting on your laptop, for example, you can join on your phone as well to share live video, control a presentation with your phone, and much more.

You can either transfer the meeting to the second device, or keep both devices in the meeting.

Transfer a meeting from one device to another

  1. While you're in a meeting on one device, open Teams on the second one (the device you want to transfer the meeting to).

  2. You'll see a message near the top of the second device's screen informing you that you're currently in a meeting on another device, and asking if you want to join it on this one, too. Select Join.

  3. Teams will then give you two options: Add this device, and Transfer to this device. Select Transfer to this device.

  4. You'll have the chance to set your audio and video preferences for the meeting on the new device. Then, choose Join.

Once you're in the meeting on the new device, your first device will leave the meeting.

Add a second device to a meeting

  1. While you're in a meeting on one device, open Teams on the second one. You'll see a message near the top of your screen informing you that you're currently in a meeting on another device, and asking if you want to join it on this one, too. Select Join.

  3. Teams will automatically mute the camera and mic on your second device before it enters the meeting to prevent an echo effect. Once it's joined, you'll be able to turn the mic and camera on or off as needed.

With both devices in the meeting, you can now share content from either one.

Add your iPhone as a companion device to a nearby meeting

If you're attending an in-person meeting that has a Microsoft Teams Room or Surface Hub set as the location, you can join with your iPhone once you're in the Teams Room or Surface Hub at the time of the meeting, or any time during the meeting.

Note: This feature is only available on iPhone currently. For Microsoft Teams Rooms that run on Windows or Android, both will work with iPhone. For Surface Hub, the room remote option on your iPhone may not work at the moment. Support for room remote on Surface Hub is currently in development.

  1. From your iPhone, turn on Bluetooth and make sure it's enabled for Teams.

  2. Open Teams while you're in the meeting room.

  3. Tap Join with room at the bottom of your screen, or Join at the top of your screen. You'll be joined in the room and on your iPhone at the same time.
