Use display and text size preferences on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Use display and text size preferences on your iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

With iOS accessibility features for the display, you can enlarge your text, make it bold, increase contrast, apply color filters, use Smart Invert, control auto-brightness, and more.

Turn on Invert Colors

If you benefit from viewing items against a dark background, you can use Invert Colors to change how content is displayed on your screen.

To use Invert Colors, open the Settings app, then tap Accessibility > Display & Text Size.

Smart Invert

Smart Invert reverses the colors on the display, except for images, media, and some apps that use dark color styles.

Classic Invert

Classic Invert reverses all colors on the display.

Turn on Color Filters

If you have color blindness or other vision challenges, you can use Color Filters to help you differentiate between colors. Color Filters can change the look of things, like pictures and movies, so you might want to use it only when needed.

Open the Settings app, then tap Accessibility > Display & Text Size > Color Filters. You'll see three examples of color spaces to help you select an option that fits your needs. Swipe left or right on the examples to find a filter that works best for you.

From left to right, this example shows pencils in a rainbow of colors, starting with red and yellow, and ending with purple and brown.

This example shows three columns of color intensity.

This example shows vertical lines on a variable color background for color deficiencies. Choose the filter that shows the entire line.

Choose a filter

When you turn on Color Filters, you can choose from four preset filters:

  • Grayscale
  • Red/Green for Protanopia
  • Green/Red for Deuteranopia
  • Blue/Yellow for Tritanopia

Adjust color intensity

You can adjust the intensity of any of the Color Filters to fit your needs. Use the Intensity slider to customize a filter that's more intense or less intense.

Adjust Color Tint

If you have color or light sensitivity, tap Color Tint to change the hue of the entire display on your iPhone, iPad or iPod Touch. Use the sliders to adjust your display's hue and the intensity of the effect.

More display accommodations

In addition to inverting colors and applying filters, you can also find these accommodations on the Display & Text Size screen:

  • Bold Text: Makes the text in your device's user interface bold.
  • Larger Text: Tap this, then turn on Larger Accessibility Sizes. Then you can use the slider to adjust your preferred reading size.
  • Button Shapes: Adds shapes to buttons—for example, an underline beneath Back buttons.
  • On/Off Labels: Adds On/Off labels on preference screens.
  • Reduce Transparency: Improves contrast by reducing transparency and blurs on some backgrounds.
  • Increase Contrast: Improves color contrast between app foreground and background colors.
  • Differentiate Without Color: Replaces user interface items that rely solely on color to convey information.
  • Reduce White Point: Reduces the intensity of bright colors.

Limit Frame Rate

If you have an iPad Pro (10.5-inch) or iPad Pro 12.9-inch (2nd generation), you can set the maximum frame rate of your display to 60 frames per second. Open the Settings app. Tap Accessibility > Motion, then turn on Limit Frame Rate.

Turn on features with Accessibility Shortcut or Control Center

Invert Colors and Color Filters can be quickly turned on or off with the Accessibility Shortcut. Learn how to use the Accessibility Shortcut.

Backup methods for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch - Apple Support

Backup methods for iPhone, iPad, and iPod touch

A backup allows you to copy and save the information from your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch. If you replace your device, you can use a backup to transfer your information to a new device.

Decide which method is best for you

In case you ever need an alternative backup, you can back up your device using iCloud and also using your computer. Learn how to back up your device or restore your device from a backup.

iCloud

Computer

iCloud backups

With a Wi-Fi network connection, you can back up your device using iCloud. You don't need to plug your device into a computer to back up with iCloud.

iCloud backups include nearly all data and settings stored on your device. iCloud backups don't include:

  • Data that's already stored in iCloud, like Contacts, Calendars, Notes, iCloud Photos, iMessages, Voice Memos, text (SMS) and multimedia (MMS) messages, and Health data
  • Data stored in other cloud services, like Gmail and Exchange mail
  • Apple Mail data
  • Apple Pay information and settings
  • Face ID or Touch ID settings
  • iCloud Music Library and App Store content (If it's still available in the iTunes, App, or Apple Books store, you can tap to re-download your already purchased content.)

Learn how to back up your device using iCloud or how to manage iCloud storage and delete backups that you no longer need.

When you use Messages in iCloud, Health data on iOS 12, or Voice Memos, your content is automatically stored in iCloud. If you turn on iCloud Photos, your content is also automatically stored in iCloud.

Backups from your computer

A computer backup of your device, which is not the same as a sync, includes almost all of your device's data and settings. A backup from a computer doesn't include:

  • Content from the iTunes and App Stores, or PDFs downloaded directly to Apple Books
  • Content synced from Finder or iTunes, like imported MP3s or CDs, videos, books, and photos
  • Data already stored in iCloud, like iCloud Photos, iMessages, and text (SMS) and multimedia (MMS) messages
  • Face ID or Touch ID settings
  • Apple Pay information and settings
  • Apple Mail data
  • Activity, Health, and Keychain data (to back up this content, you'll need to use Encrypted Backup in iTunes.)

Learn how to back up your device using your computer, how to find backups on your Mac or PC, and how to delete backups that you no longer need.

Can I use my device's backup for another kind of device, like an iPhone backup for an iPad?

You can restore a device from a backup of another kind of device, like using an iPad backup for an iPhone, but certain types of content won't transfer. This content includes photos, Messages and attachments in Messages, Voice Memos, and apps that aren't compatible with the device that you're setting up. For example, apps compatible only with iPad won't transfer to your iPhone.

If your devices use iCloud and Messages in iCloud, your iMessages and text (SMS) and multimedia (MMS) messages are automatically stored in iCloud.

If Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager asks you to approve new terms and conditions - Apple Support

If Apple Business Manager or Apple School Manager asks you to approve new terms and conditions

Apple sometimes updates the macOS, iOS, or tvOS Software License Agreement, often when releasing a new OS version. When a Software License Agreement is updated, an Apple School Manager Administrator or an Apple Business Manager Administrator must log into the program website to review and agree to the updated terms.

About Administrators

The person who completes the initial program enrollment also accepts the following Terms and Conditions on behalf of the enrolling organization:

  • Apple School Manager Agreement or Apple Business Manager Agreement
  • macOS Software License Agreement
  • iOS Software License Agreement
  • tvOS Software License Agreement

After completing enrollment, this person becomes the Administrator in Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager. In Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager, this person can also designate up to four more Administrators.

Accepting updated agreements

After Apple updates one of these agreements, any Apple School Manager Administrator or Apple Business Manager Administrator must sign in to the program website to accept any new agreements.

If you don't accept the agreements

Devices assigned to a Mobile Device Management (MDM) server in Apple School Manager or Apple Business Manager won't be affected. If you erase all content and settings on a device, the device is still assigned to the same MDM server, and the same settings are applied during setup.

However, these conditions apply until the new agreements are accepted:

  • Apple School Manager instructors and managers can reset user passwords and send or print login information, but other site functions will be disabled.
  • Apple Business Manager managers can reset user passwords and send or print login information, but other site functions will be disabled.
  • In Apple School Manager and Apple Business Manager, you can't assign new devices to your MDM server, even if you have selected the option to automatically assign new purchases to a specific MDM server.
  • Your MDM server might report an error message like "403 T_C_NOT_SIGNED" when communicating with Apple's device management servers.

Security and your Apple ID - Apple Support

Security and your Apple ID

Learn more about security and your Apple ID.

Your Apple ID is the account you use to access Apple services like the App Store, Apple Music, iCloud, iMessage, FaceTime, and more. It includes the email address and password you use to sign in as well as the contact, payment, and security details you use across Apple services. Apple takes the privacy of your personal information very seriously and employs industry-standard practices to safeguard your Apple ID.

Here are some of the best practices you can follow to maximize the security of your account.

Use a strong password for your Apple ID

Apple policy requires you use strong passwords with your Apple ID. Your password must have eight or more characters and include upper and lowercase letters, and at least one number. You can also add extra characters and punctuation marks to make your password even stronger. Apple also uses other password rules to make sure your password isn't easy to guess.

If you aren't sure if you have a strong password, visit your Apple ID account page to reset your password as soon as possible.

Make the answers to your security questions hard to guess

Apple uses security questions to provide you with a secondary method to identify yourself online or when contacting Apple Support. Security questions are designed to be memorable to you but hard for anyone else to guess. When used in conjunction with other identifying information, they help Apple verify that you are the person who is requesting access to your account. If you haven't selected your security questions, visit your Apple ID account page to set them up.

Protect your account with two-factor authentication

Apple offers an improved security method called two-factor authentication that's designed to ensure that you're the only person who can access your account, even if someone else knows your password. When you enter your Apple ID and password for the first time on a new device, we'll ask you to verify your identity with a six-digit verification code. This code is displayed automatically on your other devices, or sent to a phone number you trust. Just enter the code to sign in and access your account on the new device. Never share your password or verification code with anyone else.

If you use iOS 11.3 or later on your iPhone, you might not need to enter a verification code. In some cases, your trusted phone number can be automatically verified in the background on your iPhone. It's one less thing to do, and your account is still protected with two-factor authentication.

Two-factor authentication is built directly into iOS, macOS, tvOS, watchOS, and Apple's websites. You can use two-factor authentication with your Apple ID if you have a device that's using the latest iOS or macOS, or if you have access to a web browser and a phone number. Two-factor authentication is the default security method for some new Apple IDs created on iOS 10.3 or later and macOS 10.12.4 or later.

If you don't have devices that can be updated to iOS 9 or later, or OS X El Capitan or later, you can set up two-step verification for your Apple ID instead.

You need two-factor authentication to use certain features that require improved security.

Check for encryption and SSL

All web pages where you can view or change your Apple ID use Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) to protect your privacy. In Safari, look for the Lock icon  in your browser when accessing your account at your Apple ID account page to know your session is fully encrypted and secure.

Employee privacy and security policies

In addition to strong passwords, encryption, and other technology, Apple has strict policies and procedures in place to prevent unauthorized access to your account. Without proof of your identity via a temporary Support PIN and other carefully selected criteria, Apple Support can't help you perform any actions on your account. These policies are audited and reviewed on a regular basis.

Other tips for keeping your account secure

Good online security requires a combination of practices by companies using Internet services and informed behavior by users. Below are some tips to follow to maximize your security when using your Apple ID and other online accounts.

Password tips:

  • Always use a strong password.
  • Never use your Apple ID password with other online accounts.
  • Change your password regularly and avoid reusing old passwords.
  • Choose security questions and answers that can't be easily guessed. Your answers can even be nonsense as long as you can remember them. For example, Question: What is your favorite color? Answer: Mozart.

Account tips:

  • If you abandon an email address or phone number associated with your Apple ID, be sure to update your Apple ID with current information as soon as possible.
  • Set up two-factor authentication for your Apple ID to add an extra layer of security to your account and eliminate the need for security questions.
  • Avoid phishing scams. Don't click links in suspicious email or text messages and never provide personal information on any website you aren't certain is legitimate. Learn how to identify phishing attempts.
  • Don't share your Apple ID with other people, even family members.
  • When using a public computer, always sign out when your session is complete to prevent other people from accessing your account.

Never provide your password, security questions, verification codes, recovery key, or any other account security details to anyone else. Apple will never ask you for this information.

If Apple Support needs to verify your identity, we might ask you to generate a temporary Support PIN. We'll only ask for this information over the phone after you contact Apple Support for help.
